From Aikiwiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Welcome to Aikiwiki, a free Aikido encyclopædia. Aikiwiki is a collaborative project to create an accurate free content encyclopædia of Aikido, and more broadly Budo, related information. The project idea was shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia and owes a great debt to the work of countless editors, developers and users participating in that project. We strongly encourage you to check Wikipedia out and if you have the time to contribute.

Aikido is a gendai budo developed during the mid-twentieth century by the Japanese martial arts master Ueshiba Morihei and currently expounded by his many students including the current Aikido Doshu: Ueshiba Moriteru, sensei.

Started in November 2003, currently as of January 7, 2009 Aikiwiki contains a total of 109 articles. Everyone is welcome to contribute to Aikiwiki, in fact this is crucial to our success. However before you begin we recommend that you read some of the documentation (especially Help:Editing), though those familiar with MediaWiki should find the learning curve fairly shallow. You should also make yourself familiar with the Aikiwiki copyright policy and GNU Free Documentation License which covers all of the content on this site. We encourage you to use our content for your own purposes so long as you comply with the license. If you have any questions you can contact the administrators. If you would like to see an article on a topic that doesn't exist then you can start it, or alternatively you can add it to the list of article requests and perhaps one of our editors will start a new one.

We are particularly interested in contributions from people who can provide legally unencumbered photographs of Aikido practice, equipment and prominent aikidoka. If you are a member of a dojo which has a stub article or your dojo doesn't have an entry in Aikiwiki yet then please contribute or start a new article. The more contributions we recieve, the more accurate and complete Aikiwiki will become.

In the meantime while we are getting this project under way you can take a look at these free (and non-free) resources:
